Job scope of the SDE is to identify and assess new suppliers to support BorgWarner business strategy, to manage supplier APQP activities for New Product Launch components in compliance with BorgWarner APQP procedures, to train and develop Suppliers to meet BorgWarner’s expectations / requirements, and to lead supplier issue problem solving and supplier quality performance improvement.

Supplier Identification and Qualification

  • Locate and identify potential suppliers that meet or exceed the needs of BorgWarner commodity strategies.
  • Conduct on site supplier assessments of quality systems and process capabilities.
  • Ensure that potential suppliers understand BorgWarner product requirements. Review drawing, specifications, and other product specific requirements to ensure that supplier understands and complies with all RFQ requirements.
  • Supplier APQP

  • Verify supplier APQP activities at supplier’s facility. Ensure APQP progress / process integrity meets BorgWarner requirements.
  • Assist supplier in problem solving activities to meet or exceed BorgWarner requirements.
  • Proactively work with Suppliers to minimize and / or eliminate Launch issues
  • Report Supplier APQP progress / problems to BW Launch Team
  • Supplier PPAP Submissions

  • Review and ensure completeness of Supplier PPAP submissions
  • Assure PPAP timing remains on time and meets Launch timing objectives
  • Update / communicate PPAP timing to Launch Team members
  • Assist and ensure that all PPAP requirements are met and documentation is up to date and on file for components within assigned commodities
  • Supplier Quality

  • Host Supplier Quality Training Sessions at Borg Warner’s manufacturing facilities or suppliers facilities as required.
  • Ensure that the supplier’s manufacturing processes will produce a quality product that meets BorgWarner requirements.
  • Conduct Supplier Audits of Implemented Corrective Actions Plans, S.C.’s and SPC Charts
  • Complete Quality Systems Assessment at Supplier’s facility
  • EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENC

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related technical field from a four-year college or university.
  • 3 - 7 years of experience in purchasing department
